Bronze Plaque
William Dixon
"He died for freedom and honour"

At the end of the First World War, a bronze Memorial Plaque was sent to the next of kin of every soldier of the Durham Light Infantry who died in the war. Over 13,000 were made - one for every DLI soldier who died and each bears the man's full name. Because of the plaque's distinctive design, it was often called the "Death Penny"
