Part of a platoon. During WW1, there were four sections in a platoon, each with 10 to 15 soldiers led by a Corporal.
Service Battalion
Battalion of volunteers formed in 1914-15, who would only "serve" for as long as the war lasted.
Shako
Soldier's cap (like caps worn by French Foreign Legion).
Stripes
Chevrons worn on sleeve to show soldier's rank. 1 for Lance Corporal; 2 for Corporal, 3 for Sergeant.
