WW1 battalions made up of soldiers only 5' to 5'3 tall, for example 19th Battalion DLI.
Batman
Officer's servant.
Battalion
Part of a regiment. During WW1 each battalion had about 1,000 soldiers normally led by a Lieutenant Colonel. Three battalions formed one brigade.
Battle Honours
Names of battle or campaigns in which a Regiment took part, for example Inkerman or Kohima.
BEF
British Expeditionary Force to France and Belgium in 1914 and again in 1940.
Bren Carrier
British tracked vehicle, also called Universal Carrier, used in WW2.
Bren Gun
Light machine gun, originally designed in Czechoslovakia, used by British Army during WW2.
Brigade
Part of a division. During WW1 there were three infantry brigades in an infantry division, each led by a Brigadier General.
