Biography | Medals | In Memoriam | GlossaryBiography
Born in Cornforth, he was living in Coxhoe when he enlisted in the 22nd (Pioneers) Battalion DLI in 1916. On 4 March 1917, following an attack near Bouchaveness, 22 DLI - the Pioneer battalion attached to the 8th Division - began to dig communication trenches across No-Man's-Land. The Germans shelled the work and William Glendinning was killed. He was 21 years old. He has no known grave but his name is recorded on Thiepval Memorial.
