Biography

A Regular soldier, he served with the 2nd Battalion DLI during the Great War. He was awarded the Military Medal for his bravery at Morchies on 21 March 1918 - the opening day of the German Spring Offensive, when he was attached to the HQ of the 18th Infantry Brigade on observation duties and, though under fire, "directed artillery fire on numerous large bodies of the enemy."

William Brimer's son, Ronald, served with the 1st Battalion DLI in Korea. His medals are also on show in the Medal Room. William Brimer died in Hartlepool in 1978.
