William Thomas Bazeley

He enlisted in the 13th (Service) Battalion DLI in 1914 and rose to the rank of Company Sergeant Major. He won the French Croix de Guerre at Le Sars in October 1916, when armed with only a pick he took two Germans prisoner. He won the Distinguished Conduct Medal in May 1917 during a German raid on 13 DLI's trenches near Hill 60, Ypres, when "at great personal risk and with utter contempt for danger, he constantly visited the whole of his Company front, many times having to crawl over large blocks made by the enemy bombardment".
William Bazeley died in London in 1972.
