William John Arris

William Arris was a Sergeant in the DLI before he was commissioned as a Temporary Second Lieutenant in April 1917 and joined the 13th (Service) Battalion. He was awarded the Military Cross in November 1917 for his gallantry during the Third Battle of Ypres. William Arris was a Captain when he relinquished his commission in 1921.
