Awarded Distinguished Conduct Medal (London Gazette 25.11.1916) as 15874 Lance Corporal, 12th (Service) Battalion DLI.

"For conspicuous gallantry in action at Le Sars in October 1916. On three occasions he led patrols, obtaining most valuable information. Later, he lay for four hours in 'No Mans' Land', keeping touch with the attackers."
