Citation: "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty while in charge of a platoon carrying material to the front line. In spite of a heavy barrage and numerous casualties, he made three journeys from the front to the rear. Throughout the operations he showed complete disregard of personal safety and was of very great assistance during the work of consolidation."
