Pals
WW1 battalion made up of groups of friends or men from same background eg teachers (Durham Pals - 18th Battalion DLI).
Peninsula
Spain and Portugal.
Pioneers
Specialist WW1 battalion used for digging and wiring (22nd Battalion DLI).
Platoon
Part of a company. During WW1, there were four platoons in a company, each with 30 to 50 soldiers led by a Lieutenant or a Second Lieutenant.
POW
Prisoner of war.
Puttees
Long strips of khaki wool (like bandages) worn around leg during WW1.
