George Bradley Tarn
Biography | Medals | GlossaryBiography
Born in Hetton le Hole, he enlisted in 22 (Pioneers) DLI as a Bandsman and stretcher bearer. On 23 October 1916, near Le Transloy, battle of the Somme, a shell landed in a trench killing and wounding several men of 22 DLI. Lance Corporal Tarn dressed the wounded under heavy fire and then, because of the narrowness of the trench, went above ground to carry the men to safety. George Tarn was awarded the Military Medal.
