Biography

Born in Newcastle, he was a labourer and a Militiaman in 4 DLI before he enlisted as a Regular in the DLI in 1888, aged 18 years. He served with 2 DLI in India and fought with 1 DLI in the Boer War. He was wounded near Monte Christo, on the south bank of Tugela River, on 15 February 1900. He was discharged from the Army in 1901.
