William Slack
Biography | Medals | GlossaryBiography
Born in Mansfield, he was a labourer before he enlisted in the 68 Regiment as a Private in May 1812, aged 19 years. He served for 23 years, including the battles of Vittoria and Nivelle and 11 years in Canada. He was discharged in June 1835 because of chronic dyspepsia caused (according to his records) by "long servitude and advanced age with exposure to vicissitudes of weather and climate joined to habits by no means temperate". William Slack was 42 years old when he was discharged.
