Biography

Born in Lincoln, he was a wheelwright before he enlisted as a Private in the 68 Regiment in August 1808, aged 18 years. He served in the Walcheren campaign and was wounded in the right eye at the siege of Flushing in August 1809. He also fought in the Peninsular War at Vittoria, Pyrenees and Orthes. Richard Scoley was discharged in August 1826, aged 36 years, as a result of impaired vision and chronic rheumatism.
