Biography

Little is, as yet, known about this soldier other than that he served with the 16th Battalion DLI during the Second World War in Tunisia and Italy.

In September 1943, he gained the Military Medal as a Lance Corporal for his bravery at Salerno when he led a night patrol and "set a splendid example combining coolness and offensive spirit. A clash with an enemy patrol occurred and he was blown down a six-foot bank by the explosion of an enemy grenade. He immediately went in with his tommy gun and killed the German who threw the grenade. He assisted the withdrawal of the patrol and during the return journey again showed great coolness in spite of a damaged ankle".
