John Brenchley Rosher

Born in 1890, he was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was a noted oarsman. In 1914, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and he served throughout the Great War, rising to command the 14th (Service) Battalion DLI from 1917-18, as Lieutenant Colonel.
He gained the Distinguished Service Order for commanding 14 DLI in the capture of Cantaing on 21 November 1917, and the Bar for defending the canal at Marcoing on 3 December 1917, both during the battle of Cambrai.
He was also awarded the Military Cross in 1916.
During the Second World War, he served as a staff officer.
In civilian life, he was a solicitor in London. John Rosher died in London in 1965, aged 75 years.
