Biography

Born in Newcastle, he was a labourer and a Militiaman in 3 DLI before he enlisted as a Regular soldier in the DLI in 1892, aged 23 years. He was posted to 2 DLI and served in the Boer War with the Burma Mounted Infantry. He took his discharge from the Army in 1904 and returned home to Newcastle.
