John Edward Lewis

Born in 1806 in Dublin, he was educated at Trinity College, Dublin and was commissioned as an Ensign in the 77 Foot in 1830. He joined the 68 Light Infantry, as a Captain, in 1848 and served throughout the Crimean War, as a Major. In 1856, he was promoted to Brevet Lieutenant Colonel, retiring by sale of his commission in 1863. He was awarded the Turkish Order of the Mejidie (5 class) for his service in the Crimea. John Lewis died in 1878.
