Patrick Finns

Biography

Born in Corrofin, County Clare, Ireland, he was a labourer before he enlisted, aged 21 years, as a Private in the 68 Light Infantry at Galway in October 1848. He fought in the Crimean War and was wounded at Inkerman on 5 November 1854, when, although hit in the face by two musket balls, he refused treatment and remained on duty. He was awarded the French Medaille Militaire in 1856, one of seven men of the 68 LI to be given this award. Patrick Finns was discharged, as a Corporal, in 1860.
