Born in Durham City in 1914, he served in St. Margaret's Boys Brigade before joining the 8th (Territorial) Battalion DLI at Gilesgate as a Bugler. He served with 8 DLI as a Private throughout the Second World War from France in 1940, to North Africa, Sicily and back to France after D-Day in 1944. After the war he worked at Dryburn Hospital, retiring as Head Chef in 1979. Richard Draper died in 1982.
