John Ponsonby Cox

Born in Ireland in 1833, he joined the Cape Mounted Rifles in 1851, as an Ensign, and fought in the Kaffir War in South Africa, 1852-53. He joined the 68 LI in 1855 and was Mentioned in Despatches during the New Zealand War. In 1869, he joined the Linlithgow Rifle Volunteers, finally retiring as a Major in 1888. John Cox died in Scotland in 1922.
