Biography

His home was at North Biddick Hall, Washington. He joined the 4 Volunteer Battalion DLI (later 8 DLI). and commanded the 2 Volunteer Service Company with 1 DLI in South Africa from April 1901 to April 1902 on blockhouse, railway and convoy duties. He was promoted to Major in 1903 and was awarded the Territorial Decoration in 1909, having served for twenty years in the Volunteers and Territorial Force.
