Joseph Alexander Capp

Born Coundon, Bishop Auckland in 1897, he was a miner before he enlisted in the 6th Battalion DLI in 1914 - one of five brothers who served in the in the Armed Forces during the First World War - and trained as a Lewis Machine-Gunner. He was taken prisoner on 27 May 1918 at the Battle of the Aisne, when the German offensive overwhelmed the 50th Division, and spent the rest of the war in a Prisoner of War camp. Joseph Capp died in 1979, aged 81.
