Walter Charles Lascelles

Born in July 1867, the son of the Canon of Ripon, Walter Lascelles was educated at Marlborough and was commissioned, from the Militia, as a Second Lieutenant in The Durham Light Infantry in 1888. He served as a Captain in South Africa with the 1st Battalion DLI and was severely wounded at the Battle of Vaal Krantz on 6 February 1900. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order in 1901 - "In recognition of services rendered during the operations in South Africa". Walter Lascelles died at Cheltenham in 1911.
