Biography

From South Shields, he originally served with the 2nd Battalion DLI before joining the 6th Battalion Machine Gun Corps. In 1918, as a Sergeant, he was awarded both the Distinguished Conduct Medal and Bar for his "conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in action" with the MGC. He was killed in action on 18 September 1918, aged 28. Joseph Tugby is buried in Trefcon British Cemetery, Caulaincourt.
