Born in Byker in 1898, he was an apprentice boiler maker before he ran away to join the Army. He served with the 2nd Battalion DLI and was awarded the Military Medal for his bravery on 21 March 1918 at Morchies, on the first day of the great German attack, when he assisted in the capture of four machine guns.
He was discharged in 1919, as a Corporal, and returned to work as a boiler maker. He joined the Territorial Army and served as a Sergeant with the Royal Army Ordnance Corps and REME during WW2 and was Mentioned in Despatches.
Sidney Taylor died in 1962 aged 64.
