Biography

Born in 1889 in Bedminster, Somerset, he served with "A" Company, 13 DLI. In September 1917, during the Battle of Passchendaele - "He was employed in an advanced Lewis Gun post and by his splendid example he helped the other men in the post to hold the position". He was awarded the Military Medal for his "conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty". Gerald Kempster had been a Cathedral organist before the Great War. During the war, he was wounded and a finger had to be amputated. He died in 1968 at Ormskirk.
