Born in Ferryhill, he enlisted as a Private in the 19th (Bantams) Battalion DLI. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in October 1916, when "as a stretcher bearer he tended wounded and carried them to the aid post along a road heavily shelled and swept by machine gun fire." He was also awarded the Military Medal in 1918 and the Italian bronze Medal for Military Valour.
Charles Imeson died in 1972, aged 77 years.
