Biography

He served with 13 DLI throughout the Great War. As a Private in "A" Company, he was awarded the Military Medal for bravery during the attack in August 1916 on Munster Alley, battle of the Somme. He was awarded the Bar to his Military Medal, as a Corporal, in the Asiago valley in northern Italy, on 15 June 1918, during an Austrian attack. He had been recommended for the Distinguished Conduct Medal in 1915, when, as a sniper, he had shot and killed two German soldiers. He did not, however, receive this award.
