Biography

Born in 1900, Private William Kennedy enlisted with The Durham Light Infantry in Newcastle upon Tyne on 16 June 1919. He served with the Regiment after the 1918 Armistice but just before the official ending of the War on 28 June 1919 (the signing of the Treaty of Versailles), so he was still eligible for the War and Victory Medals. He was discharged in 1935 and later worked in Harraton Colliery, only to be killed in an accident on the first shift of a new job in 1946.
