Richard Hollis

Born in Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne, in 1892, he was working as a miner at Shotton Colliery when he joined the DLI at the start of the First World War. He later transferred to the 41st Machine Gun Company and was awarded the Military Medal for his 'bravery in the field' in 1918. After he was demobilized from the Army at the end of the war, he returned to his work underground. During the Second World War, Sergeant Hollis served in Haswell in the Durham Home Guard. Richard Hollis died in 1966.
