Ernest James Jones

Born in April 1936, Ernest Jones joined The Durham Light Infantry in 1957 and served with the 1st Battalion DLI as a Regular soldier during the 1950s and 1960s, including service in Cyprus, Berlin, Hong Kong and at home. However, though he is listed on the DLI's medal roll for the Cyprus campaign, his General Service Medal is named to 23513057 Lance Corporal E. Jones Royal Green Jackets. In 1970, after the DLI had become part of The Light Infantry, he transferred to the 2nd Battalion The Royal Green Jackets and finally left the Army in 1971. Ernest Jones died in November 1997.
