Andrew Percy Anderson

Born in 1889 in South Shields, he was a shipbroker's clerk when he joined the 19th (Tyneside Pioneers) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers as a Private in November 1914. In November 1916, he was sent for Officer Cadet training and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in February 1917. He then joined the 10th (Service) Battalion DLI on the Western Front but was sent home in early June 1917 with trench fever. In January 1918, he returned to France as the Signals Officer with the 6th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers and was taken prisoner on 27 May 1918 at Kleber. Andrew Anderson was repatriated in December 1918 and returned home.
