John Joseph Bell

Born in Cumberland, he was a miner living in Chopwell before he enlisted in the 9th Battalion DLI - a Territorial battalion with its Headquarters in Gateshead. He served during the Great War and was discharged as a Corporal in November 1918. He re-enlisted in 9 DLI in June 1920, when the battalion reformed. He was then 33 years old. He was finally discharged in December 1920.
According to his Army Book 358 entry, John Bell married Emily Johnson in Gateshead on 3.1.1910 and had two children, Frederick (born 14.2.1914) and Ada (born 10.11.1914). His home was at 28 Tees Street, Chopwell, County Durham.
