Biography

From Durham City, Thomas Marshall joined the 8th (Territorial) Battalion in April 1908 and went with his battalion to France, as a Sergeant, in April 1915, where he was taken prisoner by the Germans. He rejoined the 8th Battalion DLI, when it was reformed after the war, and was promoted to Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant (RQMS), becoming the Battalion's Quartermaster in 1939. Thomas Marshall returned to France with 8 DLI, as part of the British Expeditionary Force, in 1940. After his return from Dunkirk, he did not serve overseas with the battalion again.
