Tom Rushworth

Born in 1886 in South Street, Durham City and educated at Durham School, he was an Art student before the War and worked for his father's firm of antique furniture dealers. In August 1915, he joined the Army and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the 7th Battalion DLI and served on the Western Front. He later transferred to the 6th Battalion DLI and was awarded the Military Cross for his bravery on 27 May 1918 at Concevreux during the desperate fighting south of the River Aisne. Tom Rushworth died on 25 September 1923.
