Biography

Born in 1888 in London, he enlisted as a Private in the London Regiment when the War began in August 1914. He was then commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the 5th (Territorial Force) Battalion DLI in September 1915 and fought on the Western Front. He was wounded and captured during the German offensive at Lys on 11 April 1918 and was held as a prisoner until 22 December 1918. George Rowe was awarded the Military Cross in September 1918.
