9389 Private G Scales was a Volunteer with "A" Company, 2nd Volunteer Battalion DLI based at Bishop Auckland. During the Boer War, he served from April to July 1902 in South Africa with the 3rd Volunteer Service Company attached to the 1st Battalion DLI.
