Thomas Ridley Welch

Born in 1898 in Sunderland, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the 7th Battalion DLI in 1916 but served on the Western Front with the 14th (Service) Battalion DLI.
He was wounded at the Battle of Arras in April 1917 during an unsuccessful attack on Nash Alley and was later awarded the Military Cross. After the war, he worked as an estate agent and auctioneer in Sunderland. Thomas Welch died in 1951, aged 53.
