Biography

Born at Shildon in 1894, he joined the 18th (Durham Pals) Battalion DLI on 23 September 1914 at Darlington, as a Bugler. On 1 July 1916, he was wounded serving with "A" Company at Serre on the first day of the Battle of the Somme when, after the failure of the British attack, 18 DLI was ordered to hold the British trenches under a heavy German bombardment. Frederick Walker died in 1939.
