John Kershaw

Born in Rochdale in 1923, he served with the 16th Battalion DLI during the Second World War. In March 1943, at Sedjenane in Tunisia, this inexperienced battalion fought its first action of the war and suffered heavily. John Kershaw was wounded in the fighting and taken prisoner. He died on 2 March 1943 in the French hospital at Ferryville. He was 20 years old.
His mother received a letter saying that her son was missing on 23 March. She did not learn of his death until January 1944.
John Kershaw is buried in Massicault War Cemetery in Tunisia.
