Biography

Born in Gateshead in 1918, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the 9th Battalion DLI in 1938 and joined 9 DLI's second line battalion - 1st Tyneside Scottish - in 1939 and served with the BEF (British Expeditionary Force) in 1940.

Later in the war, he served with The Royal Signals in the Mediterranean area. After the war, he rejoined the DLI Territorials and also served with the Army Cadet Force.

A chemist in civilian life, his father, James Scott, was the 9 DLI's Medical Officer during WW1.
