Born in Sunderland, he was working in a glass factory before he was called up and joined the 6th Battalion DLI. He was awarded the Military Medal for his bravery on the opening night of the Battle of El Alamein, when he led his Platoon "with great dash and enthusiasm, personally bayoneting three men". On 11 August 1943, he was killed trying to defuse a booby-trapped mine of the road near Altarella in Sicily. Albert Dunn is buried in Catania War Cemetery in Sicily.
