Frederick Gerowski

From South Shields, Private Gerowski served with the 16th Battalion DLI during the Second World War. In November 1944, he was awarded the Military Medal for his bravery during the crossing of the River Cosina in Italy. Badly wounded in the head by shrapnel, he never fully recovered and was resident at Cherry Knowle Hospital in Sunderland from 1945. Frederick Gerowski died in November 1995.
