Albert Edward Newman

Born in London in 1901, the son of Sergeant A Newman, 1st Battalion DLI, he joined the Regiment during the Great War and served in Macedonia and South Russia in 1919-20, eventually becoming Orderly Room Quartermaster Sergeant of the 1st Battalion DLI.
In July 1940, he was commissioned as Lieutenant & Quartermaster and served with 14 DLI at home, before becoming QM of 16 DLI in Italy in 1943. After WW2, he served with 1 DLI and then at the Depot at Brancepeth Castle, before finally retiring, as a Major, in 1952.
Bertie Newman died in 1993.
