Biography

Born in Heworth in 1881, he was a glasscutter by trade and served in the Volunteers and Territorials before WW1. He went to France with the 9th Battalion DLI and was severely affected by gas in 1915. This affected his health for the rest of his life and ultimately caused his death in June 1926, aged 44.

His funeral was during the General Strike and, according to his daughter, the guard of honour was not allowed to carry rifles because of the crisis.
