John Hughes

Originally a Regular soldier with the 1st Battalion DLI, he served as a Company Sergeant Major with the 8th Battalion DLI on the Western Front.

Taken prisoner on the battlefield, he was held in Darmstadt Prisoner of War Camp in Germany. John Hughes was later awarded the Meritorious Service Medal
