Born in Redeaughall, Durham but living in Dunston-on-Tyne he enlisted at Newcastle in 10 DLI. Matthew Ramsey died of wounds on 9th April 1917, aged 26. He is buried in Tilloy British Cemetery, Tilloy-les-Mofflaines.
