The son of the Reverend C V Gee, Reginald Gee was born in Castletown, Sunderland, in 1896. He went to Durham School and was commissioned in October 1915, as a Second Lieutenant, in the 21st (Reserve) Battalion DLI. He went to France with the 15th (Service) Battalion DLI and was awarded the Military Cross for his "conspicuous gallantry" during the Battle of the Somme in 1916. Captain Gee was killed in action, aged 22 years, at Limont Fontaine on 7 November 1918 during the last attack made by 15 DLI, just 4 days before the signing of the Armistice. His brother Rodney was also an officer in the DLI and was also awarded the Military Cross.
