William Herbert Wilson

Born in Penshaw, he was living in Shiney Row when he enlisted in the 12th (Service) Battalion DLI in Newcastle upon Tyne . Aged just 19, he was killed in action near Ypres on 16 December 1916. At this time the front was officially reported "quiet" but there were casualties every day from shelling or snipers. William Wilson is buried at Railway Dugouts Burial Ground near Ypres in Belgium.
